Practice Areas

Six ways a case reaches us.

Most people arrive knowing something is wrong but not what it is called. Start with whichever description below sounds closest to your situation. If none of them fit, say so at the consultation and we will work out where you actually stand.

Start here if

You have court paperwork
A Notice to Appear, or a hearing date. Go to Removal Defense first.
You are afraid to go back
Asylum and humanitarian relief covers protection claims.
A relative wants to petition
Family-based immigration covers petitions and adjustment of status.

A deadline may already be running.Immigration decisions carry short appeal and filing windows, often 30 days. If you have received anything with a date on it, bring it to the consultation.

If you are not sure

Two questions that usually settle it.

01

Has a court already been involved?

  • If the Department of Homeland Security has filed a Notice to Appear with the immigration court, your case is in removal proceedings and the court sets the clock.
  • That is the case whether or not you have been detained, and whether or not you have missed anything yet.
  • If a judge has already decided, the question becomes an appeal or a motion, and the window is short.
02

Or is this still an application?

  • If nothing has been filed against you and you are applying for something, the route runs through USCIS rather than the court.
  • Asylum has both routes. Which one you are on depends on whether you were referred to a judge.
  • Family petitions start with a relative filing on your behalf, and whether you wait depends on the category.

How we work

The attorney who takes your case is the one who prepares it.

You work directly with the attorney handling your case, not a rotating intake team. The caseload is deliberately limited so that the person who knows your file is the person standing up at the hearing.

That has a practical consequence worth knowing before you call: this practice does not take every case. If a matter needs a specialist elsewhere, or if the honest answer is that there is no relief available, you will hear it early rather than late.

Consultations are one-on-one. Bring whatever you have received from the immigration court or USCIS, even if it is incomplete.
